  5. extremely sensitive to noise, he couldn‚Äôt bear any 
  6. sound that was the least bit loud, and that was a 
  7. result of his operation that he just had a few 
  8. months before in New York City where he had a 
  9. brain tumor removed in something like a seventeen-
  10. hour operation which almost destroyed him, but 
  11. that was a very memorable introduction to 
  12. McLuhan.
